£20m Man City ace set to reject Barcelona – keen on extending deal

Manchester City star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to open contract talks with the Citizens.

The 27-year-old has two years remaining on his contract with Man City.

According to The Sun, Gundogan – who currently earns £90,000 per week – is keen on extending his deal with the Premier League champions.

Per the source, La Liga giants Barcelona are also keen on signing Gundogan however, he is expected to reject interest from the La Liga giants.

The Sun goes onto state that an Etihad source said: “Ilkay is happy here and the club want to keep him.

“There is interest in him but it is expected he will stay.

“He loves playing under Pep, but who wouldn’t? He also enjoys living in Manchester and the city and club as a whole.

“There’s still a couple of years left on his contract but he has been great since joining and it won’t be long until it’s all sorted we hope.”

Gundogan made the move to Man City from Borussia Dortmund for £20 million back in 2016.

The midfielder suffered a long-term injury in his first season but established himself as a first team regular during the 2017/18 campaign.

Gundogan has won the Premier League title, EFL Cup and Community Shield with Man City and has made 44 league appearances.

The 27-year-old was included in Joachim Low’s Germany national team squad and started against Peru on Sunday. Gundogan is expected to return to action with Man City when they take on Fulham this weekend.
