3. Struggles as a favourite

Beşiktaş tended to perform better as an underdog with Bilic in charge. The Black Eagles played their best football under the 47-year-old coach in the games against Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool – all games the Premier League sides were expected to win. Beşiktaş did however, struggle when considered a favourite. The Istanbul giants were sent crashing out of the Europa League against a side they were expected to breeze past – Club Brugge. Beşiktaş also fell to pieces in the title race after dropping points against Konyaspor, Gaziantepspor and Akhisar – all mid-table/relegation battling sides the Istanbul giants were expected to crush.
