Malli was one of three ethnic Turks born in Germany that featured in the clash with the other two being youngster Suat Serdar and Liverpool forward Emre Can.
Tottenham have been keeping close tabs on Malli over for the last season but missed out on his £7.5 million release clause which expired at the end of July according to the Daily Star.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to sign the 24-year-old this summer but would have to increase his offer to £8.5 million which is his current valuation.
Perhaps Can encouraged him to join the Premier League outfit? or perhaps they just went on a night out.
Malli enjoyed an impressive season at Mainz and almost joined Borussia Dortmund in January before the deal fell through.
