The construction of the stadium in Balıkesir which will be named after the Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has begun.
The President of Dursunbey Belediyespor, Yusuf Turhan recently revealed that the clubs new stadium will be named in honour of the Dortmund star İlkay Gündoğan.
The club is based in the Dursunbey district of Balıkesir. Gündoğan’s family originate from the area and his father İrfan who also happens to be his agent has been closely involved in the construction of the stadium and club facilities.
“We will do everything we can to develop the club and the stadium, İlkay has always maintained close ties with Dursunbey, with Balıkesir and Turkey,” İrfan told Fanatik.
Gündoğan has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the appointment of Jugen Klopp.
The 25-year-old has hinted at a move to Liverpool during a recent interview with the German tabloid newspaper Bild. “They have a good team, a great coach,” Gündoğan stated.
Dortmund sit in second place in the Bundesliga with 38 points in 16 games.
