Mesut Özil has stated that he is looking forward to Arsenal’s clash with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions league.
The 27-year-old rates Barcelona as the best team in the world and believes it is important for Arsenal to test themselves in big games.
“Barcelona are the hardest team in the world to play against. Barcelona are the best team at the moment in the world,” Özil stated in an interview with Henry Winter of the Times.
“We know that, but as a player I look forward to encounters like this.
“It is important to have these big games, it’s nice to play against the best teams, to compete with them is a big opportunity for us.”
Özil has been in great form for Arsenal this season providing 16 assists in 19 Premier League games. The World Cup winner is no stranger to Barcelona having joined Arsenal from Real Madrid who just happen to be huge rivals.
Arsenal have played Barcelona seven times in European competition winning once, drawing twice and losing four times.
The Gunners take on Sunderland today in the FA Cup and face Liverpool in their next Premier League fixture.
