Mesut Özil has been arguably Arsenal’s player of the season so far providing 15 assists in 16 games and winning the Gunners Team of the Month award for the October, November and could be set to lift the prize for a third successive time in December.
Former Arsenal star and football pundit Thierry Henry has been full of praise for the World Cup winner and praised Özil for his unselfish play but did underline that he needs more goals in his game.
“Özil showed me at Real Madrid that he could play with guys that can run in behind but one thing I will say about him is that he likes to share and you cannot knock him for that,” Henry said speaking before the Arsenal – Manchester City game.
“When he has to score he will score but he does not get enough goals.”
Özil has just four goals in all competitions this season which is just one short of last seasons tally of five.
The 27-year-old does however, have a remarkable assist record which is the best in Europe’s top five leagues including England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
Özil setup both goals in the 2-1 victory over City last weekend and is almost certain to start against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on Monday.
