Lazar Markovic joined Fenerbahçe on-loan over the summer transfer window and has managed to establish himself as a first-team regular when fit.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was not in charge of the club when the 21-year-old was transferred to Turkey on a temporary move and he refused to comment on how he would have handled the affair.

Klopp was quoted by Team Talk as saying: “It would be too easy to say ‘no, I would not have done things like this and given him out on loan’.

“But I was not in the situation so I cannot say too much about this.”

Klopp did however, state that there must have been a logical explanation behind the decision to let him go.

“There would have been good reasons for this,” he added.

Liverpool are prepared to offload their Serbian forward Lazar Markovic for £7.3 million according to a report by LigTV despite signing him for from Benfica for £20 million.

Markovic failed to settle in under former head coach Brendan Rodgers but was played out of position for most of last season.

Fenerbahçe are currently second in the Turkish Super League just one point behind leaders and Istanbul rivals Beşiktaş.
