Emre Can was ‘outstanding’ says Liverpool boss [divider]
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praised Emre Can following the 1-0 win over Burnley.
“We knew coming into the game this was going to be tough,” Rodgers said.
“Our football wasn’t as fluent as it could have been but we’ve kept a clean sheet, won the game and it’s a big three points for us.
“We defended well in the first half but didn’t play well. We needed to show a bit more composure from behind. I brought Emre Can on and I thought he was outstanding.
“It’s been well documented that we’ve not been at the level we’d like, but I feel we have been improving in the last few weeks.”
Can started the game on the bench – for the sixth consecutive Premier League game – but was brought on at half time with the score level at 0-0.
The 20-year-old midfielder made his first Premier League appearance since Liverpool’s 3-1 loss against Crystal Palace on November 23 2014.
Can has now made a total of 10 appearances in all competitions for the Reds this season since joining from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
