Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has lavished praise on Premier League leaders Leicester City for their efforts this season.
Leicester would pull off one of the greatest upsets in the history of football should they win the Premier League this season.
Ozil was quoted by the Guardian as saying: “They deserve to be up there; Leicester fight for every point. We see in every game that players of Leicester want to achieve something. We ourselves have not been focused in every game and that is not possible in the Premier League since there is no opponent you can beat easily.”
The Germany international of Turkish origin does however, believe that Arsenal can still catch Leicester and win the league themselves.
Arsenal are currently 11 points behind the Foxes but do have a game in hand and will close the gap to eight points with a win against Watford over the weekend.
“Leicester have been great but there are still a few games. I think we still have a chance to catch them up. We must, of course, hope for mistakes,” he added.
The Gunners will end a 12 year run without winning the league if they were to lift the title at the end season.
The Premier League is currently the only trophy the Gunners can still win after being knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League.
