Mesut Ozil has revealed that Arsene Wenger must strengthen the squad over the summer if Arsenal are to win the Premier League next season.
Ozil’s request will probably be music to the ears of Arsenal fans who have been calling for Wenger to spend.
“We know that it will not be easy and that we need reinforcements if we want next season to be on top here again,” Ozil was quoted as saying in the Guardian.
Petr Cech was the Gunners sole signing during last summer’s transfer window joining from London rivals Chelsea.
Wenger made just one further signing in the winter window bringing in Egypt international midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
The Arsenal boss was criticised by sections of the fanbase and football pundits for not strengthening his side further.
The Gunners are still in the title race but are currently 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City with a game in hand.
Ozil joined Arsenal on a record £42.5 million transfer fee from Real Madrid in 2013 but the Gunners have failed to win the league for 12 years.
