Emre Can has revealed that he would love to become a world class player like Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the future but admitted he has a long way to go.
Despite being a huge fan of Gerrard, Can revealed that he wishes to pursue his own path and become a star in his own right.
Can told Sport1: “I want to be my own player but I am currently far from where Gerrard was I want to become a world class player like him.”
Gerrard recently praised Can for his form under Jurgen Klopp who replaced Brendan Rodgers as head coach earlier in the season.
The 22-year-old stated that it was a great honour to be praised by Gerrard and that as well as being a great player the former Liverpool captain was also a great person off the field.
“This is more than a great honor for me Gerrard is such a down to earth person and such a great footballer from who I can learn so much, it made me proud when he said that,” he added.
The Germany international of Turkish origin has established himself as a first team regular under the stewardship of Klopp and is expected to start against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League quarter-final first-leg on Thursday.
