Borussia Dortmund star Nuri Sahin wants no excuses in the Europa League quarter-final second leg tie at Anfield on Thursday.
Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw at home last week and Sahin was not best pleased with his sides performance in fact he described the display pout on as being ‘extremely poor’.
“We were very sloppy on the ball and our passing was extremely poor,” Sahin was quoted as saying by Sport Bild.
“We were unable to dominate in midfield. The absence of some first-team regulars cannot be an excuse. We should not be looking for excuses. We simply did not put in a good performance.”
Dortmund did however, make 699 passes compared to Liverpool’s 404 so it will be interesting to see what Sahin believes a good passing performance to be.
Sahin came on in the second half against the Reds last week but started against Schalke in the derby over the weekend and is likely to get the nod against Liverpool.
The 25-year-old defender could end up being one of three ethnic Turks born in Germany playing in the tie. Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and Dortmund team-mate Ilkay Gundogan were all born in Germany and are of Turkish heritage.
Dortmund require a win or a draw of 1-1 to push the tie to extra time but in the event of a score draw above 1-1 the German giants would book a place in the semi-finals.
