Emre Can has revealed that he only found out that he was starting for Liverpool against Villarreal on the day.
The 22-year-old was a doubt going into the Europa League encounter following an ankle injury he suffered during Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund.
Can was expected to miss the rest of the season but has made a miraculous recovery way ahead of schedule.
The Germany international went onto say that he feel’s fully fit and is not playing with pain.
“I am so happy that I could play. I only found earlier in the day that I would be starting,” Can told the Liverpool Echo.
“The manager spoke with me and asked me if I was fit. I told him I was ready.
“The injury wasn’t for long, it was only out for three weeks. I’d played 45 games before that this season. I’m fit and I have no pain.”
The former Bayer Leverkusen man was a surprise inclusion in Klopp’s starting line-up following the injury he sustained during the Red’s win over Dortmund.
Can has provided three assists and two goals in 47 appearances for Liverpool this season.
