Turkey ended up losing 2-1 against England at the Etihad in the first of their Euro 2016 build-up matches.
Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun started for Turkey and despite not scoring football pundit Alan Shearer had some kind words to say after the game.
“He reminds me of myself when I was younger,” Shearer said after the game.
Tosun was chuffed with being compared to Shearer and told the Fanatik newspaper that he was proud that the former England international praised him.
“It is an honour to be compared the Alan Shearer, I know I still have to still improve but this kind of praise can only help,” he said.
Turkey boss Fatih Terim faces a tough task picking his first choice striker this summer going into Euro 2016.
Tosun won the league with Besiktas but played second fiddle to Mario Gomez despite having an impressive season.
Burak Yilmaz is struggling with injury for his Chinese club and Mevlut Erdinc also remains in the frame. Terim has hinted that Galatasaray striker Sinan Gumus may get a call-up and there has even been talk of dropping the striker position altogether and playing attacking midfielder Yunus Malli as a false nine.
