Genclerbirligi boss backs lifting of foreign player restrictions
Mehmet Özdilek appointed as Kayseri Erciyesspor manger
“It is the right decision in my opinion,” Özdilek told Fanatik.
“Lifting the foreign player restrictions will increase competition, there must be competition within the team between the Turkish and foreign players.
“Our teams are competing in the Europa League and Champions League, there are no player rulings there so we are just shooting ourselves in the foot.
“Look at Arsenal, sometime no English player even play but English players still come through the ranks and they are better off for it, nobody should fear competition, if our players are good enough they will benefit this if they are not good enough then they should not have been playing anyway.”
The current foreign player ruling states that only five non-Turkish players are permitted to play at any one time and three foreign players are allowed on the bench.
Under the new ruling 14 domestic and 14 foreign players will be permitted for each club.
