Alexander Milosevic revealed that he was on the receiving end of police tear gas in the summer of 2013 during the Gezi Park protests.

Milosevic was playing at an U-21 national game at Istanbul’s Kasımpaşa stadium just a stonesthrow away from Gezi Park and Taksim square.

“We were in Istanbul as the Sweden U-21 team and the game at Kasımpaşa coincided with the Gezi events,” he told Hürriyet.

“The game was suspended for two hours due to the tear gas that reached the pitch,” he said.

Milosevic played for Serbia at U-17 level but later switched allegiance to his country of birth Sweden.

The 22-year-old defender joined the Black Eagles from AIK after spending four years playing for the Swedish side.

The Swedish international signed a 3.5 year deal with the Black Eagles on a €1 million move earlier in the month.

Milosevic provided two assists and scored three goals in 28 appearances for AIK Stockholm this season.

Beşiktaş have been busy during the winter transfer window, the Black Eagles also signed Porto right-back Daniel Opare on loan and are close to agreeing terms with Hamburg HSV midfielder Tolgay Arslan.

The Black Eagles are just one point behind league leaders Fenerbahçe and kick off their second-half campaign away against Ankara based side Gençlerbirliği on 26 January.
