Fenerbahce have signed Martin Skrtel from Liverpool for free according to the Bild.

The Yellow Canaries were reported to have agreed to a £5 million transfer fee according to the Guardian but the German tabloid is reported that the Fenerbahce have not actually paid a fee for the Slovakian international.

A source close to the Istanbul giants told Turkish-Football that the 31-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with Fenerbahce worth €3 million per season plus bonuses.

Stars & Friends – Skrtel’s management company – agent Mihat Halis meanwhile told Turkish-football.com that the transfer is very likely to go ahead and that all that remains is for Fenerbahce to wrap up contract talks with the Slovakian international.

“The clubs have agreed, we just have some personal details to sort out, it is nothing that won’t be sorted,” he said.

“It is going ahead.”

Fenerbahce have already parted ways with defenders Ba, Gokhan Gonul and Bruno Alves so strengthening the defence has been of vital importance.

Srktel will become the third defensive player to join the Istanbul giants this summer after Roman Neustadter and PSG’s Gregory van der Wiel who joined last week.
