Mesut Ozil has revealed who he will be supporting in this weekend’s Euro 2016 final between hosts France and Portugal.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told beIN Sport that Ozil told him that he hopes France go on to win the Euros, now that his own team is no longer in the competition.
Germany were eliminated by the hosts France following a brace from the Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann. Didier Deschamps side recorded a 2-0 victory over the Germany to book their place in Sunday’s final.
Joachim Low’s side dominated possession against the host’s yesterday but were unable to find a breakthrough. Ozil’s Arsenal teammates Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud started for France.
Ozil was one of the stars of the show during Germany’s win over Italy in the quarters. The Arsenal playmaker scored Germany’s only goal against Italy in regulation time but when it was his turn to score in the penalty shoot out he missed. Ozil has now missed both his penalty efforts at Euro 2016 and four of his last five penalties for club and country.
The 27-year-old will join Arsenal’s pre-season camp later this month following a short break.
