Arsenal boss warns Ozil not to get too carried away in the gym [divider]
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned Mesut Özil not to get too carried away with strength training in the gym.
“A guy who spends a bit of time in the gym kills his co-ordination and becomes more rigid,” Wenger was quoted as saying on the official Arsenal website.
“Winning a challenge is down to flexibility and co-ordination, switching on all the muscles on at the same, right, time. That is not down to lifting weights.”
Özil recently recovered from a knee injury in the 2-0 loss against Chelsea back in October.
The Arsenal star has spent his time on the sidelines working on improving his strength in the gym following criticism that he was struggling with the physicalness of the Premier League.
Despite Wenger’s fears, Özil does not look like he is going to become the next Arnold Schwarzenegger anytime soon.
Özil has made two assists and scored one goal in 11 appearances for the North-London based club this season.
The record £42.5 million Arsenal signing provided 14 assists for the Gunners last season.
The 26-year-old has an 88 percent pass completion rate and has averaged 60.6 passes per-game, only Aaron Ramsey has a better record according to Whoscored.
