Besiktas have launched a loan bid for Manchester United’s out-of-favour midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The Turkish Super Lig broadcaster LigTV have reported that the Istanbul based club have held talks with United with a view to loaning the Germany international on a season-long loan.

Besiktas are looking to mark the new season in their new stadium with a marquee signing.

However, the Express states that Besiktas’ rivals Fenerbahce are also planning a swoop for the Germany international. The Yellow Canaries have been keeping close tabs on Schweinsteiger and reports that he could be available have put the club on alert.

The Daily Record, reports that United’s boss Jose Mourinho is keen on trimming his squad and that Schweinsteiger, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Juan Mata are currently deemed surplus to requirements.

Fenerbahce and Besiktas will both be playing Champions League football next season and are currently the bookmakers favourites to lock horns in the 2016-17 title race as well.
