Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has been closely linked with Galatasaray over the transfer window.
A source close to the Lions told Turkish-football.com that Galatasaray are in talks with Liverpool over the transfer of Lucas and that talks have reached an advanced stage. The Brazilian midfielder could end up joining the Istanbul giants over the next few days.
Galatasaray want Lucas on a three-year deal but despite reaching an agreement in principle there are a few last details to sort out before the transfer can be completed.
Sky Sports also reported today that Galatasaray want the 29-year-old midfielder and the team head coach Riekerink himself confirmed he is keen on Lucas in his pre-match press conference ahead of the pre-season friendly against Manchester United.
Riekerink said: “Lucas is one of the players we are targeting. We have been in discussions and it is true we want an experienced midfielder.”
Lucas has made 313 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions since joining from Brazilian giants Gremio in 2007.
The 29-year-old would join former team-mate Martin Skrtel as the second Liverpool player to join a Super Lig side over the summer if he were to make the move.
