Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil is the favourite to once again be the Premier Leagues assist king.
According to the Evening Standard, the bookmakers have set Ozil’s odds to be crowned assist king at 2/1 with Kevin De Bruyne second favourite at 4/1 and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen in third place at 7/1.
Ozil recorded an incredible 19 assists for the Gunners last season, just one off matching Thierry Henry’s record of 20. However, Ozil should have racked up a couple more seeing that he created an astonishing 144 chances for his Arsenal teammates.
The Germany international is expected to miss the weekend clash agaisnt Liverpool after starting pre-season training this week. Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny were also given extended breaks after competing at Euro 2016 and are set to miss out.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is facing a selection crisis after a long-term injury to Mertesacker and an injury to the Brazilian defender Gabriel who was was stretchered off during a pre-season game.
