Serie A outfit Sampdoria have entered the race for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva according to Italian sports journalist Gianluca di Marzio.

Per the source, Sampdoria have contacted his agent and made an enquiry regarding his availability.

Despite interest from Italy, Turkish giants Galatasaray remain favourites to sign Lucas over the summer following comments made by sporting director Levent Nazifoglu.

Galatasaray have already agreed terms with Liverpool and all that remains is for Lucas to make his final decision.

The Lions have given the 29-year-old midfielder 24 hours to make his final decision regarding Galatasaray’s offer.

Nazifoglu told us: “We spoke with Lucas Leiva last night and he asked us for another day before making his decision,

“The situation will be clearer by tonight.”

Lucas joined the Reds from Gremio nine-years ago and is currently the most experienced player in the Liverpool squad.

The experienced midfielder would join former teammate Martin Skrtel in Turkey if he were to make the move although this time around he would be playing for a rival side as the Slovakian international joined Fenerbahce.
