Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu suffered a hamstring injury during the 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the the Spanish Super Cup according to the official club website.
The report states that Mathieu was replaced at the end of the first half by Lucas Digne due to a hamstring problem in his right leg.
The French defender is expected to fall down the pecking order at Barca following the signing of Digne and Umtitti over the summer but he did start against Sevilla.
Sport recently reported that Liverpool are considering a €7m move for the French defender. Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp is reported to be keeping an eye Mathieu’s situation as he continues efforts to strengthen his defence.
Arsenal have also made an enquiry for Barca defender according to the Evening Standard. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is also facing problems in defence after Per Mertesacker, Gabriel and Koscielny were ruled out of the 4-3 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.
Turkish champions Besiktas are also in the race to sign Mathieu after recent signing Adriano recommended his former Barcelona team-mate to follow him to the Istanbul giants according to Fotomac.
