Arsenal are on the hunt for a new centre-back before the transfer window closes following long-term injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.
According to the Turkish newspaper Fanatik, the Gunners are preparing a £12 million bid for Fenerbahce’s Denmark international centre back Simon Kjear. However, Turkish-football can reveal that Fenerbahce will not consider offers below £13 million.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is running out of time to sign a new defender and will be left short of options if he fails to reinforce the defence before the end of the transfer window.
The French tactician was forced to play Holding and Chambers against Liverpool in the first game of the season. The Gunners conceded four goals at home against the Reds in a defensive display the team will want to forget in a hurry.
Kjear, who joined from the Ligue 1 side Lille last summer, has another three-years remaining on his current contract. Fenerbahce take on Grasshoppers in the Euorpa League qualification stage tomorrow.
