Galatasaray have signed world renowned goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek after recently resigning from his position at Manchester United according to the Futbol Arena.
Per the source, Lions boss Jan Ole Riekerink is a close friend of Hoek and worked with him at Ajax.
Hoek was the coach recruited by Johan Cruyff in his goalkeeping revolution whilst in charge of Ajax. Cruyff brought in Hoek to train Stanley Menzo in goal how to keep possession of the ball. Menzo’s starting position was often far from goal which helped him in passing the ball out and to act as a sweeper behind the defence to cancel out fast counter attacking moves.
Hoek’s style of goalkeeping went onto be adopted by Ajax and Barcelona – he worked at both clubs – where he developed the playing style of the likes of Edwin van der Sar, Victor Valdes and others.
The Dutch will be replacing Brazilian legend Claudio Taffarel as goalkeeping coach at the Istanbul giants after he recently parted ways after a 10 year stint at the club.
Following Louis van Gaal’s dismissal at United his backroom team of Hoek, Albert Stuivenberg (assistant coach) and Max Reckers (performance analyst) also parted ways with the club.
Hoek previously worked alongside van Gaal during his time in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The coach was the third to work with United keeper David de Gea in the last three years and will now coach Uruguayan international Fernando Muslera.
Hoek is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeeping coaches in world football.
