Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained why Emre can sat out of Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat against Burnley.
The 22-year-old was one of the stars of the season for the Red’s last term but is yet to start in the news season. Can made an appearance off the bench against Arsenal but was an unused substitute away to Burnley.
Klopp revealed that Can is currently nursing a back injury. “Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player?” Klopp told reporters from the Guardian.
Liverpool star Emre Can has yet to start a game for the Reds since the end of last season after being left on the bench for the second consecutive week ahead of the Burnley clash.
Can has struggled for match fitness after returning to pre-season training later than most of his teammates after an extended break following Euro 2016.
The 22-year-old enjoyed trips to Turkey to meet family and the US before returning to team training.
