Stoke City have joined the race for Liverpool outcast Mamadou Sakho according to the Telegraph.

Per the source, Potters boss Mark Hughes is keen on the centre-back and has made the Reds an enquiry regarding his availably.

Liverpool have given Sakho the green light to leave on a temporary move after falling out of favour with head coach Jurgen Klopp.

The 26-year-old defender reportedly turned up late for training during pre-sesaon, was late for a team flight from Liverpool to California last month and also turned up for a team meal late after missing a treatment session for his injury.

Klopp did not deny the possibility to Sakho leaving after the 5-0 EFL Cup win at Burton Albion on Tuesday.

“I’m happy that I don’t talk in situations like this.  Everybody who needs to be informed about this has been informed about this,” Klopp said.

“There are no secrets with the important people, I would say.”

Stoke could face competition from Besiktas who have made an enquiry regarding the availability of Sakho on loan a source close to the club told Turkish-football.com.

Besiktas would be able to offer Sakho the prospect of Champions League football and a realistic chance of silverware this season if he were to make the move.

The Black Eagles also helped turn around Mario Gomez’s career last season following a successful loan stint that saw him finish the league as top scorer and play a key role in winning the league title.
