Arsenal could be set for more disappointment as Dortmund enter race for £19.64m target who is open to move

Borussia Dortmund are considering an offer for Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak according to Sport1.

The Bundesliga giants have been closely linked with Toprak and pushed for a move earlier in the transfer window only to have their transfer efforts shut down.

Bayer were reluctant to sell Toprak at the start of the summer but the situation has changed since signing Dragovich from Dynamo Kiev.

Toprak has a £19.64 million release clause option and Bayer will listen to offers for the centre-back – they would have to consider any offer that matched the buyout clause option regardless if they wanted to or not.

“It is not certain whether I will stay at Bayer Leverkusen, we still have a month and anything could happen until them,” Toprak said earlier in the month on a proposed move away from the Bundesliga club, as quoted by Turkish-Football.com.

Arsenal are also in the race to sign Toprak who is currently one of the few players on Arsene Wenger’s shortlist – for defenders – that is open to a move.

Wenger has had rotten luck in the transfer market this summer in regards to signing a defender. Efforts to sign Mustafi, Phil Jones and Johnny Evans have all hit the rocks over the past week.

The Arsenal boss is however, determined to bolster his defence with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel out injured.
