Liverpool suffered a blow going into the Chelsea clash following confirmation from head coach Jurgen Klopp that Emre Can will not play according to the Independent.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was quoted as saying that Can has recovered from his injury but that he must train before returning to first team football
“Emre is not injured any more, which is good, but now he needs to train and that’s how it is,” said Klopp.
“He had a difficult pre-season with coming back later than most of the other players then a little injury here and a little problem there.”
Can has played just 20 minutes of Premier League football this season and has been out sidelined ever since picking up an injury in the League Cup clash against Burton Albion last month.
In other Liverpool team news Dejan Lovren will return from an eye injury and fellow defender Ragnar Klavan could also make his return after recovering from a slight knee injury.
The return of the defenders will be welcomed by Klopp who had to play Lucas Leiva in defence against Leicester City last week.
Mamadou Sakho has also recovered from his ankle injury but will not feature as he is lacking match fitness.
Goalkeeper Lloris Karius could ahead of Simon Mignolet after returning to the bench last weekend.
Philippe Coutinho could keep his place in the team after an impressive display against Leicester City. Daniel Sturridge could be pushed to the bench if he does start.
