Barcelona star Arda Turan was linked with a move away from Spain throughout the summer transfer window.
The Sun reported that Barcelona were at one stage prepared to cut their losses and accept a £20 million bid for the Turkish international star.
Per the source, Arsenal and Chelsea were both interested in signing the 29-year-old but a deal never materialised.
Barca moved quickly to dismiss the transfer reports and underlined that despite having a disappointing season they would be keeping Turan on at the club.
It now turns out that Turan has a £60 million release clause according to Squawka, which is a huge jump from the £20 million being touted over the summer.
The Sun claimed that Chelsea and Arsenal had the option to sign Turan for £40 million less than his release clause.
It did look at one stage that Barca would wipe their hands of Turan after a woeful European Championships but he was called back to pre-season a week earlier than his teammates who were also on international duty and the gamble to keep him on appears to have worked in the clubs favour.
Turan has been in impressive form scoring five times and providing four assists in 10 appearances for the reigning La Liga champions.
The Turkish international star still has another four-years remaining on his current deal.
