Bursapor 1-2 Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor entered 2017 with a surprise victory over Bursaspor. The Black Sea Storm are traditionally one of the big four clubs in Turkey but they had a dismal 2016 and were expected to struggle against a Bursaspor side that has been putting pressure on the top four. The star of the show was 19-year-old Yusuf Yazici who was given an opportunity to prove himself by head coach Ersun Yanal. Yazici scored the opening goal and setup Ugur Demirok with the second in what was a memorable performance for the rising star.

Karabukspor 1-0 Akhisar

Karabuspor ended up getting the better of Akhisar thanks to a goal from Latovlevici in this mid-table scrap.

Alanyaspor 2-3 Rizespor

Alanyaspor’s 3-2 loss against Rizespor proved to be one defeat too many for Huseyin Kalpar who was sacked after the game. The newly promoted side dropped into 14th place following the result.

Basaksehir 5-0 Kayserispor

Basaksehir sent a message to the rest of the league that the first half of the season was no fluke following a 5-0 demolition of Kayserispor. In what ended up being the most convincing victory of the week Mehmet Batdal, Emre Belozoglu, Edin Visca, Stevanovic (Own Goal) and teenage wonder-kid Cengiz Under all got on the scoresheet. Once considered Istanbul minnows, Abdullah Avci’s boys are not only first but remain unbeaten and have scored the highest number of goals (36) and conceded the fewest goals in the league (11).

Konyaspor 0-1 Galatasaray

Galatasaray ground out a hard earned three points against Konyaspor on the road. The winner came from the most unlikely of sources in Sabri Sarioglu and January signing Garry Rodrigues looked impressive on his debut.

Kasimpasa 3-0 Genclerbirligi

It took Kasimpasa just 16 minutes for Titi, Adem Buyuk and David Pavelka to put three past Genclerbirligi and kill the game. Basaksehir target Tunay Torun had an impressive game and provided a superb assist for the second goal.

Gaziantepspor 0-3 Antalyaspor

Antalyaspor spent the first two weeks of the new year fighting off interest in Samuel Eto’o. The star striker didn’t get on the scoresheet but he did setup Chico with the second goal in what turned out to be a convincing victory in Gaziantepspor’s first game in their brand new stadium.

Fenerbahce 2-2 Adanaspor

The biggest surprise of the week was Fenerbahce failing to beat Adanaspor at home. The Yellow Canaries slip-up means they have now fallen seven points behind leaders Basaksehir. Fenerbahce do have the chance to make up lost ground next week as they take on the former Istanbul minnows.

Osmanlispor 0-2 Besiktas

Besiktas returned to the Super Lig with a bang. Head coach Senol Gunes had a full-squad to pick from other than Caner Erkin who remains injured. Anderson Talisca made his comeback from injury with yet another stunning long range goal to take his season tally to five. Aboubakar was supposed to be the star striker this season but it has been Cenk Tosun stealing the limelight. The Turkish international forward is now the top scorer in the league with 11 goals this season.
