Chelsea transfer news: Star defender reacts to reports of Blues offer
Fenerbahce star defender Simon Kjaer has been closely linked with a move to Chelsea over the winter transfer window.
A source close to the club revealed to Turkish-Football.com that Chelsea have been keeping close tabs on Kjaer all season.
Fenerbahce do not want to part ways with Kjaer – in January anyway – and have been keen to keep him at the club.
Kjaer responded to transfer rumours claiming that Chelsea have made an offer and that he is considering leaving the Istanbul giants in January following Fenerbahce’s 1-0 win over league leaders Basaksehir.
“These are just rumours like every transfer window, there is nothing to it, nothing has changes,” Kjaer was quoted as saying by Turkish-football.com.
Kjaer will almost definitely be staying at Fenerbahce over the transfer window and still has another two-years remaining on his contract.
The Denmark international helped shut out the leagues highest scoring side against Basaksehir on Sunday, putting on yet another impressive display.
Kjaer was selected in UEFA’s Europa League Team of the Group Stages following a stellar showing in Group A which Fenerbahce ended up topping despite competing against the likes of Manchester United and Feyenoord.
Fenerbahce closed the gap with league leaders Basaksehir to four points following their victory over the weekend.
Chelsea meanwhile are first in the Premier League, eight points clear of second placed Tottenham.
In other Chelsea transfer news the Blues have been linked with a £34.5 million move for Benfica defender Nelson Semedo according to the Daily Express [via A Bola].
Per the source, Antonio Conte is keen on bringing in defensive reinforcements and Semedo is reported to have caught his attention.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich were also reported to be interested in the young defender but decided not to make a bid.
