The 59-year-old compared Ozil to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard who was the star of the show last weekend.
Hazard lead Chelsea to a 3-1 victory over Arsenal and scored a contender for ‘goal of the season’ in the process. Meanwhile, Ozil failed to make a major impact on the game.
“When you play the big games, you want your big players to step up. That’s exactly what he did,” Hoddle told the Mail.
“The contrast with Mesut Ozil was unavoidable. The bigger the game, the better Hazard plays.
“For Ozil, despite his record as a World Cup winner and a La Liga champion at Real Madrid, you feel it’s the opposite.”
Despite Hoddle’s criticism, Ozil has had a rather good season so far. The 28-year-old has provided eight assists and scored nine goals in 27 apperances.
Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard meanwhile has provided four assists and scored ten goals in 26 games this season.
Ozil decided to respond to critics yesterday by posting a video of himself working out in the gym.
