Chelsea transfer target Fernando Muslera has revealed that he will consider staying at Galatasaray if a contract extension is put forward.
The Telegraph reported that Chelsea added the Uruguayan international keeper to their goalkeeping shortlist over the winter transfer window as a potential replacement for Asmir Begovic.
A source close to Muslera revealed to the Turkish-Football.com that Galatasaray turned down all enquiries for the experienced keeper and have played a €25 million valuation on the Uruguay international.
Muslera’s contract runs until 2018 and there have been rumours that Galatasaray are lining up a pay rise.
“I have heard about the contract rumours, if I am made an offer I will consider it,” Muslera was quoted by Turkish-football.com as saying today.
“I want my name to be written in the Galatasaray history books and remembered for years to come.”
The Blues have been planning for Begovic’s exit but Spanish football journalist Guillem Balagau told Sky Sports that Real Madrid are interested in signing Chelsea’s first choice keeper Thibaut Courtois over the summer : “I understand Hugo Lloris is not on Real Madrid’s radar – it is clear to me that he will remain at Spurs.
“Thibaut Courtois is an easier option than David de Gea, who remains their No. 1 target.
“Courtois is second on the wishlist and Real are confident they will get either Courtois or De Gea.”
Muslera is Galatasaray’s first choice keeper as he has been for years and he is also number one for Uruguay.
The experienced keeper is unlikely to accept a back-up role if he were to leave Galatsaray.
The Turkish has won every domestic title at Galatasaray and the Copa America with Uruguay.
The 30-year-old keeper joined Galatasaray from Serie A outfit Lazio back in 2013.
The Galatasaray star has made 228 appearances in all competitions for the Istanbul giants keeping a total of 73 clean sheets.
