Goal reported that Ozil was sent home by the team doctor due to illness which leaves him just a few days to recover for the Premier League game on Saturday versus the Reds.

Ozil was out bowling with Granit Xhaka, Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi last night but his teammates do not seem to have come down with the same illness.

The Germany international of Turkish origin has come under fire from sections of the media and Arsenal fans following a dip in form.

Ozil has not scored in 2017 but it is worth highlighting that he has nine goals and eights assists this season.

Despite being criticised for his work-rate Ozil has actually covered more ground on average (10.49km per game) than Alexis Sanchez who is generally praised for being hard working.

In other Arsenal team news the Gunners will also be without Mohamed Elneny who has been ruled out with injury.

Aaron Ramsey has returned to Arsenal training but Wenger has yet to reveal whether he will be match fit in time as he has only just returned from injury.

Also star defender Laurent Koscielny returned to training after his injury suffered in Munich against Bayern Munich in the first-leg of the Champions League Last 16.

Koscielny missed the Gunners FA Cup clash against Sutton and faces a race against time to recover in time for the Liverpool game.
