Paul Merson makes bold prediction for Liverpool v Arsenal game
The former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes that this weekend’s Liverpool v Arsenal blockbuster fixture will be a high scoring affair.
Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday evening. Kick-off is at 17:30 (GMT). The Reds weill be eager to return to winning ways after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Leicester City on Monday.
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is an injury doubt going into this weekend’s clash. Liverpool midfielder Emre Can started for the Red’s on Monday and could start again against the Gunners.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were outclassed in all areas of the field by Leicester and ended up losing by a 3-1 scoreline.
Merson told SkySports that Liverpool were ‘terrible’ on Monday but is expecting a marked up improvement for when they take on Arsenal. The football pundit believes there will be plenty of goals and predicted a 2-2 draw.
“I could not believe how bad Liverpool were on Monday. They were terrible,” Merson was quoted as saying by SkySports.
“You’d expect them not to be as bad again with Arsenal in town, but I am struggling to predict a winner in this game so that’s why I’m going for a 2-2 draw.”
Liverpool star Emre Can is expected to keep his place in the side after providing an assist and putting on a decent display despite his side losing 3-1 to Leicester City.
Can’s chances of starting have been made stronger due to team captain Jordan Henderson being set to miss the clash due to injury.
Arsenal haven’t played a Premier League fixture since Febuary 11 when they defeated Hull City 2-0. The Gunners have the chance to put clear daylight between themselves and Liverpool in the race for a top-four finish.
