Chelsea line up move for £42m World Cup winner, Man United remain bookmakers favourites to sign star player
Chelsea are considering making a move for Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil, according to the Metro.
Per the source, Blues boss Antonio Conte has set this sights on both Alexis Sanchez and Ozil.
Interestingly the news comes just hours after Goal linked Ozil with a move to Manchester United. However Goal state that the 28-year-old is unwilling to trade London for Manchester.
Man United have been made the bookmakers favourite to sign Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
The Red Devils have surged ahead of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the race for the World Cup winner.
The Germany international will have just 12 months remaining on his contract this summer. If Arsenal do not tie Ozil down to a new deal, they risk losing him on a free in 2018.
Arsenal signed Ozil from Real Madrid for a club record £42.4 million (BBC) back in 2013.
The Gunners may be forced into selling Ozil to their rivals, as they did with Robin van Persie. Van Persie joined Manchester United from Arsenal back in 2012.
Arsene Wenger’s side take on an in-form Manchester City the this weekend. The Gunners are six points behind fourth placed Liverpool but do have to games in hand.
Meanwhile, Chelsea take on Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
