Former Germany international defender Per Mertesacker has stated that Arsenal must make more use of their star players.

The Gunners captain urged his teammates to give Ozil and Sanchez the ball in attacking positions where they are most dangerous.

The experienced centre-back has been sidelined since the beginning of the season due to an injury.

“We are really capable of going on good runs. We have shown that in the past,” Mertesacker was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

“We need to be patient and have trust and faith in ourselves.

“It’s important to take a step back and think about what is important, and that is trusting each other and knowing what we’re capable of. Let’s try and get players like Alexis and Mesut into spots where they are dangerous.

“We absolutely have to push now. That’s the simple message for everyone in the squad.”

Mesut Ozil has provided ten goals and 11 assists in 33 apperances for Arsenal this season.

The 28-year-old was the star of the show during Arsenal’s win over West Ham.

Ozil scored his sides opening goal and set up Theo Walcott for the second.

The Gunners moved up into fifth place following last night’s victory. Arsenal are four points behind fourth placed Man City but do have a game in hand.

Arsene Wenger’s side take on their London rivals Crystal Palace in the league this weekend.

Palace have moved out of the relegation zone following a string of victories in recent weeks. The Eagles suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton on Wednesday.
