Tottenham v Arsenal Grim reading for Arsenal fans as Paul Merson makes Tottenham prediction
Former Arsenal star midfielder Paul Merson has made a surprise prediction regarding the north London derby.
Merson – who spent 12 years at Arsenal – believes Tottenham will win this weekend.
Spurs host Arsenal at White Hart Lane as they look to keep the pressure up on leaders Chelsea.
Arsenal meanwhile cannot afford to drop any more points in their pursuit of a top-four finish.
Merson has predicted that Tottenham will record a convincing 3-1 victory over Arsenal. The SkySports pundit went onto say that Spurs can even win the Premier League this season.
“Credit to Arsenal for that performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Man City. I didn’t see it coming,” Paul Merson told SkySports.
“But I cannot bring myself to back them to beat Tottenham on Sunday. I weigh it up and think, where do Arsenal win this game?
“Alexis Sanchez needs the match of his life, Mesut Ozil needs to have an unbelievable performance, and it needs to go their way on the day.
“Spurs maybe felt they just had to turn up at Palace and I think Big Sam’s team shocked them a little bit. They must have got a rollocking at half-time, Mamadou Sakho then got injured and Mauricio Pochettino took off his holding midfielders.
“In the end, they deserved to win and it was a massive three points. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m going 3-1 to Spurs this weekend. There’s a long way to go in this title race.”
Arsenal come into the north London derby in good form. Arsene Wenger’s men defeated Man City last weekend to book a place in the FA Cup final.
The Gunners also defeated Leicester City on Tuesday.
Tottenham meanwhile are unbeaten at home this season. Furthermore, Spurs come into the clash on the back of eight league wins in a row.
