Arsenal want £42m for Mesut Ozil, Turkish giants hold talks with agent
Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil faces an uncertain future at the club.
Ozil will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season and has yet to sign a new deal.
To complicate matters further Ozil has not revealed whether he will or will not extend his contract with the North London outfit.
Turkish outlet Fotospor claim that Arsenal want £42 million for any clubs interested in signing him over the summer.
Per the source, Fotospor were informed of the Gunners asking price after details of talks between Fenerbahce and Ozil’s agent were leaked.
The report claims that Fenerbahce held indirect talks through an intermediary regarding Ozil’s availability.
The 28-year-old is a Germany international but he is of Turkish origin and grew up a self-confessed Fenerbahce fan.
“Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahçe fan,” Ozil told the Turkish outlet Sabah.
Ozil speaks Turkish fluently and is a popular celebrity regularly appearing on television shows.
The playmaker has never actually played in Turkey before but he already has a road named after him in his parents town of Devrek in the Zonguldak province.
A source close to the player also revealed to Turkish-football.com that Ozil has been looking for property in Istanbul, Turkey recently.
The Yellow Canaries do see Ozil playing for them at some stage in his career and have held talks with his representatives in the past.
