Barcelona eye shock move for £42m Arsenal star as Andres Iniesta replacement
Barcelona are preparing a move for Arsenal’s star playmaker and contract rebel Mesut Ozil according to reports in Spain.
Ozil has a littler over 12-months remaining on his current deal with the Gunners. Contract talks between Arsenal and the 28-year-old have stalled in recent weeks.
Despite defeating Man United in the Premier League yesterday, Arsenal’s chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions league are slim. The Gunners failure to participate in Europe’s top competition may prove to be a key factor in Ozil’s future.
According to the Spanish outlet Don Balon, Barcelona are targeting the Germany international playmaker.
Per the source, the reigning La Liga champions view Ozil as a replacement for the ageing Andres Iniesta.
If Ozil were to move to Barcelona it would certainly cause controversy in Spain. The 28-year-old spent three seasons playing for Real Madrid before joining Arsenal for £42 million (BBC).
Ozil has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
