‘It’s just instinct’ – Liverpool star with just 12 months left on contract reveals how he pulled off incredible over-head kick

Liverpool news: Germany international with just 12 months left on contract explains his incredible over-head kick

Liverpool star midfielder Emre Can has explained his incredible over-head kick against Watford FC.

The Germany international scored a contender for goal of the season during his sides 1-0 victory over the Hornets. Can pulled off a perfectly executed overhead kick to earn his sides all three points.

Can stated that the acrobatic finish was simply based on just ‘instinct.’

“Divock came to the ball and there was a little bit of room behind the line,” Can told the Sunday Times.

“I just wanted to run in and Lucas played a beautiful ball.

“It was a move from training. When [the striker] comes to the ball, you have to go behind them because it’s very difficult to defend.

“The first thing in my mind was ‘I will head the ball’ and then the ball was just a little bit behind me. I just had one option to finish, which was the bicycle kick.

“Of course it can go wrong. The ball can go off your foot to the corner flag! I don’t practise bicycle kicks, but you have some picture in your head and it’s just instinct.”

“I’ve never scored a goal like that (as a professional) but I did it once when I was 14, 15, playing for Eintracht Frankfurt. It was in the last-minute, a winning goal. When it went in I went crazy.”

Can’s future at Liverpool is still shrouded in mystery. The Germany international will have just 12 months remaining on his current contract at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old did reveal that he is happy at Liverpool during an interview with the Times. However, Can did not comment on signing a new deal.

“I have still a contract here and I am very happy. That’s all I can say,” Can told the Times.

Emre Can played the full 90 minutes during Liverpool’s disappointing 0-0 draw to Southampton on Sunday. The Reds sit in third place with 70 points after 36 games.
