Başakşehir manager Abdullah Avcı revealed that he was pleased to return back to the top four in the Süper Lig following their 1-0 win over Gaziantepspor.
“Our aim was to be in the top 6 at this stage of the season so it is a bonus to be in 4th place,” Avcı was quoted as saying by Eurosport TR after the game.
The Başakşehir manager was however, not pleased with his side not being able to put the game beyond doubt despite having chances to do so.
“We controlled the game throughout but because we were unable to score a second goal he had a nervous last few minutes,” he added.
The Istanbul minnows kept their 12th clean sheet in the Süper Lig this season following the win.
Only Bayern Munich, Juventus, Porto, Benfica and Braga have conceded fewer goals than Başakşehir in Europe’s top-tier leagues this season.
Başakşehir are currently 4th with 35 points but need Bursaspor and Trabzonspor to both either lose or draw if they are to keep their current position.
