Arsenal star would ‘be better’ alongside Man United’s Matic or Chelsea ace Kante, says ex-international
Former England international Danny Murphy believes Mesut Ozil’s struggles are down to his teammates.
The footballer-turned-pundit has stated that Ozil would be better playing alongside Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic or Chelsea ace N’Golo Kante.
Speaking live on SkySport’s The Debate show, Murphy suggested that Arsene Wenger should deploy more defensive minded players behind Ozil.
The 28-year-old generally plays alongside Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey in midfield.
“It’s easier to produce in big games if you’re in a good team,” Murphy told SkySports.

“I’ve always said would Ozil be better playing ahead of [Nemanja] Matic and [N’Golo] Kante or [Mousa] Dembele and [Victor] Wanyama compared to Ramsey and Xhaka.
“It’s not a criticism of Ramsey or Xhaka because they’re attacking midfielders to me who are creative.”
Ozil has been under fire in recent weeks following a string of inconsistent performances. The World Cup winner was however back to his best for Germany last week and played a starring role during Arsenal’s victory over Bournemouth.
The Gunners take on their London rivals Chelsea this weekend. The game takes place on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, kick-off is scheduled for 13:30 (GMT).
Chelsea come into the game following three victories in a row and will be in a confident mood.
