Man City team news: Star duo set to miss Shakhtar clash, Mendy faces late fitness test
Manchester City take on Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad on Champions League Match Day 2 on Tuesday 26 September.
City are in fine form, unbeated in their first eight games of the season having scored 27 goals in all competitions.
Pep Guardiola will however, be without star duo Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany.
Guardiola revealed that his captain and the midfielder of Turkish origin will not feature.

“Vincent is not ready for tomorrow,” Guadiola was quoted as saying on the official City website. “Ilkay trained yesterday part of the training. Vincent is similar.
Gundogan also missed the 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace on the weekend but is expected to return in time for City’s clash against Premier League champions Chelsea on the weekend.
Guardiola will have Sergio Aguero available, the Argentinian forward has scored six goals in six games.
Aguero will become the club’s all-time top scorer if he nets two or more against Shakhtar.
City are unbeaten in their last nine Champions League home games while Shakhtar have lost all four of their last away games in the competition.
