‘Welcome back!’ – Man City fans react to Ilkay Gundogan returning for first Champions League appearance of 2017
Manchester City beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 in Ukraine on Champions League Match Day 2.
Apart from winning the game City fans had another reason to celebrate.
Star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan made his first Champions League appearance of 2017.
Gundogan had been ruled out since December with a knee injury but has since recovered and made his first start last week in the League Cup against West Brom.
The former Borussia Dortmund man played the last 10 minutes agaisnt Shakhtar despite being expected to miss the game after picking up an injury against the Baggies.
We took a look at how City fans reacted to Gundogan’s Champions League return on social media.

City fans also seemed hopeful that Gundogan will be fit for the clash against Premier League champions Chelsea on the weekend.
The midfielder of Turkish origin is expected to be available.
