Arsenal transfer news: Ex-Gunner makes huge claim over midfield star’s future and transfer in January

Arsenal are prepared to offload their star playmaker in January according to former Gunner Stuart Robson.

The 28-year-old playmaker has under nine months remaining on his contract with the north London based club.

Ozil has also found himself on the bench in recent weeks as Wenger has opted to field a more disciplined side.

Robson believes Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to get rid of Ozil in January in order to recoup some of the money they paid for him. Otherwise, the Germany international could end up leaving the club for free next summer.

“I think they’re at that stage (where they want to sell Ozil in January),” Robson told ESPN FC.

“Ozil has shown no indication to sign a contract at Arsenal.

“The problem that Arsenal have if they do want to sell him is that he is on so much money, is there going to be another club willing to pay him the sort of money that he would want?

“So that’s going to be their major problem.

“Since the debacle at Liverpool, Mesut Ozil hasn’t played that many times since and Arsenal have looked a better side.

“One of the reasons is because they are starting to press the ball a little bit better and Ozil can’t do those sorts of things.

“So maybe Arsene Wenger, at last, has realised that Ozil for all his quality, for all his ability on the ball, for all his creativity, if he doesn’t defend and doesn’t show the right urgency to close the ball down, it makes Arsenal a worse team.”

Ozil is currently recovering from a knee injury which kept him out of Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Sunday. The former Real Madrid star was also omitted from Joachim Low’s Germany national team side for their upcoming World Cup qualification games.

Arsenal take on Watford FC at Vicarage Road when the Premier League returns on October 14.
