Man City star warns that Napoli are one of the ‘most underrated’ teams in Europe
Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan has warned his side not to underestimate Napoli in the Champions League Match Day 3 clash tonight.
Gundogan was full of praise for his opposition, underlining that he respects the Italian giants.
The midfielder of Turkish origin described the Serie A outfit as being one of the most underrated in Europe.
Gundogan also highlighted similarities in style between City and Napoli.
“I’ve not seen that much of Napoli this season, to be honest, but over the past few years they’ve been very strong and play beautiful football and I know they’ve made a fantastic start,” Gundogan was quoted as saying on the official Man City website.
“I think they play a similar style to us in that they’re technical, play a lot of short, quick passes and have players in the middle who excel at that type of football.
“They have strikers who regularly score a lot of goals and they have huge quality. For me, in European football, Napoli are one of the teams that are maybe the most underrated because they can beat anyone on their day. They are very dangerous and they could surprise a lot of people.”
City head into the clash in great form having won their last nine games in all competitions.
Gundogan is fit for the game and has been named in the squad.
Pep Guardiola will however, be without injured pair Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy.
Sergio Aguero meanwhile made the bench for Saturday’s welcome of Stoke and is expected to make the match day squad.
City are currently first in Group F after winning their first two games, Napoli meanwhile are third on three points.
