Newcastle expected to break transfer record to sign £20m January target, Crystal Palace also on radar

Newcastle United are expected to break their transfer record to sign Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun according to reports in Turkey.

CNN Turk report that the Magpies are preparing a £15 million offer for the star striker.

A source close to Besiktas revealed to Turkish-Football that Newcastle are among several clubs scouting Tosun but that they are not prepared to accept under £20 million.

The reigning Super Lig champions have increased their valuation of Tosun since the summer transfer window when Crystal Palace almost signed him for £12 million.

The Evening Standard report that Besiktas would be prepared to accept £20 million for Tosun in January and that Palace are preparing a move.

The Magpies will have to break the Super Lig transfer record to sign the player which is currently held by Elvir Baljic who Real Madrid signed from Fenerbahce for £16 million in 1999.

Cengiz Under became the most expensive Turkish international to leave the Super Lig when Roma snapped him up for £12 million from Basaksehir over the summer.

Tosun has been in great form this season and has been directly involved in four goals in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old scored the UEFA goal of the week for his long-range finish in the 3-1 win over Porto and picked up a Man of the Match award for his brace in the 2-0 win over Monaco on Tuesday 18 October.
